The Lost Trees is an exploration of the emotional and environmental significance of trees. Nancy Cadogan's paintings serve as both memorials and uplifting tributes to the deep, personal connections people hold with these natural giants.
This body of work – featuring paintings of trees, lost and remembered through stories – was initially sparked by the felling of trees in Cadogan's neighbourhood for the HS2 project. Witnessing the community’s grief and the personal memories that emerged, Cadogan uncovered the profound bonds people held with these cherished specimens.
The inspiration for this show grew as the mass felling of trees continued.
The Lost Trees, invites viewers to consider their own relationships with the natural world, especially in light of modern development, and the lasting impact trees have on our cultural heritage.
In 2025, this exhibition will be exhibited in The Garden Museum, London, before travelling around the UK.
